2019 Estate Old Vines Cabernet Sauvignon
Walla Walla Valley
Our oldest block cabernet sauvignon, grown on shallow basalt terraces, produces average yields of less than two tons per acre. Our efforts toward sustainable wine growing began in 2004 and are clearly improving the grapes and wine
from the Woodward Canyon Estate Vineyard. All grapes were harvested by hand and sorted prior to crushing. This wine was fermented with Woodward Canyon native yeast, and it was punched down two times per day. After pressing and settling, this wine went directly to new French oak barrels for additional aging and maturation. This is the sixth vintage of our Walla Walla Valley Estate Old Vine Cabernet Sauvignon.

This wine is deep and inky ruby in color. Pronounced aromas of Bing cherry, cigar box, Kalamata olive, and notes of dark plum integrate perfectly with firm fruit. On the palate, a silky mouthfeel is exotic, generous, and long. The wine offers a firm structure with vibrant acid yet shows beautiful proportion. While one could enjoy it now, it will benefit from additional cellaring and should continue to develop for ten years or more with proper storage. Store and serve at cellar temperature.
Woodward Canyon Estate Vineyard Planted in 1977, Woodward Canyon is the westernmost vineyard in the Walla Walla Valley AVA, roughly 15 miles west of Walla Walla, Washington. There are 41 vineyard acres planted and several more acres of green belts that support native species such as western juniper, ponderosa pine, western sagebrush, arrowleaf balsamroot, and perennial wildflowers. Ritzville silt loam over fractured basalt, slope 15-18%, 750-850ft elevation. Managed by Woodward Canyon. All grapes are Salmon Safe certified as is the wine.
