2018 WWV Estate Syrah, Mourvèdre, Grenache

2018 WWV Estate Syrah, Mourvèdre, Grenache
Walla Walla Valley

This is the first release of our Walla Walla Valley Estate Syrah, Mourvèdre, Grenache blend. We have been experimenting with Mediterranean varietals for years now, and are excited about this new release. Fermented with native yeasts and a spontaneous malolactic fermentation, this blend will change from year to year to produce a wine inspired by some of our old world favorites. This wine was produced from grapes grown at Woodward Canyon Estate Vineyard (Salmon Safe certified) at the western edge of the Walla Walla Valley.

Wine Profile
Tasting Notes
This wine is deep purple in color with aromatics of bacon, smoky roasted meat, and ripe cherry. In the mouth, there are flavors of vanilla and ripe black fruits that evolve nicely into a smooth mouthfeel, and a classic Walla Walla character. This a delightfully intriguing red wine that clearly shows a distinct sense of place. Its ripe fruit and acidity make it a very food-worthy wine to be enjoyed with Mediterranean cuisine. The wine will benefit from more bottle aging and with proper cellaring, this wine should age well for up to ten years.
93 POINTS- Dr. Owen Bargreen: Made from Syrah, Mourvedre, and Grenache grapes, this unique wine for this producer shows flinty and smoky tones on the nose with a good core of red and dark fruits that all mingle together in the glass. The palate is soft and very generous with a terrific sense of mouthfeel. Red currant jelly, smoked pork shoulder, and blackberry cobbler flavors all marvelously meld together, with a dusting of white pepper. This is really good stuff even at the three-year mark. Drink. 2021-2031. 19+/20, Highly Recommended- Rand Sealey's Review of Washington Wines: Composed of 37% Syrah, 32% Mourvèdre and 31% Grenache, this exhibits a deep ruby-crimson color and seductive aromas of blackberry, mountain blueberry, black cherry and black currant, with scents of crushed black roses, mulberry, pipe tobacco, garrigue, black olive and spiced incense. The flavors are bold and dramatic with loads of thick dark fruits that are intermixed with black licorice, Swiss chocolate, French roast and minerals. The saturation continues on the back with macerated berries, grilled walnuts, bacon, a bit of leather, moderate oak (44% new French for 23 months) and pulverized charcoal, followed by a lingering herb and spice dusted firm yet smooth tannin finish.
