2013 Estate Dolcetto - New Release
Woodward Canyon Estate Vineyard, Certified Sustainable by ICBO via LIVE; Salmon-Safe. All grapes are sustainably grown at our Walla Walla Valley Woodward Canyon Estate Vineyard. The vineyard has been certified sustainable by the International Organisation for Biological Control (IOBC). The IOBC was established in 1955 to promote environmentally safe methods of pest and disease control in plant protection. The vineyard and this wine are also designated as Salmon Safe.
Reflecting the warmer 2013 growing season, this new Dolcetto is beautifully proportioned with gorgeous fruit and is perfectly structured. The tannins are mature and integrated due to ideal physiological ripeness. The yield was absolutely perfect at 2.5 tons per acre. This wine reminds me of the lovely dolcetto wines produced in the Dogliani region.
Dolcetto is always the first red wine grape of the vintage to be harvested at Woodward Canyon. This wine was fermented in one stainless steel tank and was pumped over twice a day. After pressing, the wine was transferred to older French oak barrels to complete primary fermentation. Malo-lactic fermentation was not allowed to occur in our very cold cellar. After nearly months of aging, the wine was racked from barrel and bottled in the early spring of 2015. This wine has a beautiful dark garnet color and fruit driven nose of mature Walla Walla River blackberries. Flavors of black fruits and subtle spices carry through in the mouth. The finish is long, generous and well balanced. This wine is produced with summer lunches in mind and should be enjoyed at cool cellar temperature.
