Celilo Vineyard (100%) is located in the Columbia Gorge Appellation. Celilo Vineyard continues to bring elegance, grace and balance which allows this incredible chardonnay to express a very definite sense of place. This is our first Celilo Vineyard designated chardonnay produced since the 2001 vintage.
Vintage Specific Characteristics:
This 2012 Chardonnay was produced entirely from Wente Clone chardonnay. The grapes were harvested by hand, sorted and whole cluster pressed. The yield averaged 2.5 tons per acre with all grapes harvested by the third week of October. This incredible Celilo Vineyard Chardonnay reflects the warmer and slightly larger vintage from which it came.
Production Notes and General Characteristics:
This wine was fermented in 100% Sirugue French burgundy barrels; roughly 20% new. Beautifully mature flavors of pear, apple, and white peach marry perfectly with wonderful acidity. Whole cluster pressing has given delineated fruit which integrates beautifully with subtle aroma of vanilla, melon and mineral. Finally, the oak is more understated by our choice and is in wonderful proportion with the fruit and acidity. The texture is smooth and rich while the finish is complex, generous, and long. This wine may be consumed upon release, but it will benefit substantially with a year or two in bottle and should continue to improve for several years more with proper cellaring.
