2013 Estate Chardonnay - Reserve/New Release
All grapes are sustainably grown at our Walla Walla Valley Estate Vineyard; the vineyard has also been certified sustainable by (IOBC) International Organisation for Biological Control via LIVE. The IOBC was established in 1955 to promote environmentally safe methods of pest and disease control in plant protection. The vineyard is also designated as Salmon Safe. This wine is 100% from the Estate Vineyard making it a designated Salmon Safe wine.
This 2013 Walla Walla Valley Estate Chardonnay is produced from our oldest Estate grapes. Originally planted in 1977, this southeast-facing chardonnay vineyard (clone 108) could easily qualify as “old vines” at 38 years of age. The Ritzville Silt Loam soil is extremely shallow, lying over fractured basalt, and is of marginal productivity. Plant spacing is 3 feet by 12 feet giving a density of over 1,200 plants per acre. Cluster thinning, shoot positioning, and leaf stripping gave beautifully mature fruit at 2.4 tons per acre.
This Chardonnay was 100% barrel fermented in French Burgundy barrels, of which roughly 25% were new. Rich flavors of peach and apple marry with vanilla, spice and hazelnut to offer complex aromas in the nose balanced with mineral notes and generous fruit in the mouth. At the same time, there is an elegant, refined side and it shows a very distinct sense of place. This wine was produced from a rather warm vintage; I recommend consuming over the next several years.

This single vineyard wine shows both the warmth of the vintage and the coolness of this site, showing depth and richness to the fruit flavors while retaining good acidity. It brings notes of apple, peach and lees with light barrel accents – 20% new French – and a creamy feel. Enjoy with shrimp stir fired in olive oil for a paring nirvana.

This is a sensational wine from one of the top Chardonnay vineyards in the state. Whole cluster barrel fermented, it displays a brilliant gold color and sensuous floral aromas of pear, peach, pineapple, apple blossoms, vanilla bean, acacia flowers and white incense. The white fruit compote flavors are lavish, yet precisely delineated, with notes of peach stone, grape skins and volcanic minerals. The rich texture continues on the back with sensations of poire William liqueur, butterscotch, and squeezed citrus and pineapple juices, all gliding vibrantly through the lingering, lightly spiced and deftly oaked finish. This wine is delicious from the beginning to the last drop.
