The 1987 vintage was the first Washington wine to be on Wine Spectator’s Top 10 list. This is a full-bodied Cabernet and will typically age well with proper cellar conditions, 15+ years from vintage.

Tasting Notes
This release of the “Old Vines” Cabernet Sauvignon is dark purple and dense in the glass. Intermingling aromas of fig jam, olive, butterscotch, and coffee develop with a rich concentration of ripe black fruits and pipe tobacco. The new French oak beautifully integrates the fruit, acid, and alcohol creating a nice weight, texture, and overall mouthfeel. The smooth but firm tannins leave you with a rich, long finish. It expresses the purity of fully mature cabernet sauvignon fruit that can only be achieved from old vine fruit. Store and serve at cellar temperature.

95 POINTS - Jeb Dunnuck: The 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon Old Vines, which has been made since 1981, comes from a mix of Sagemoor, Weinbau, Champoux, and the Woodward Canyon Vineyards and was brought up in 100% new French oak. It has a beautiful perfume of cassis and mulberry fruit as well as notes of new leather, lead pencil shavings, exotic flowers, and spice. It's medium to full-bodied on the palate and shows the ripe, supple, seamless style of the vintage nicely. As with all these 2019s, it offers pleasure today yet will evolve for 20+ years. 95 POINTS - Vinous: The 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon Old Vines is a sensational bottling by the talented Kevin Mott that has massive aging potential. Dark currants collide with smoke, sagebrush, and blueberry compote on the nose. The palate is soft, showing a touch of hedonism with its blue fruit profile and truly outstanding length. Tasting date: October 2021 95 POINTS - International Wine Report: Fruit sourced from some of the oldest vines in Washington State with fruit coming from the Champoux and Sagemoor Vineyards, this Cabernet is aged for 22 months in 100% new French oak barrels. Sporting a dense, dark purple core with a brickish rim in the glass, and notes of macerated boysenberry, fresh blue fig, new leather, cedary herbs, dark chocolate, and espresso powder. The palate is a touch riper and aged than the nose, with some dried currant and wet earth notes. It’s well-rounded and balanced with high levels of acidity and integrated sweet tannin, with a lengthy dark-fruit and earthy finish that goes on and on. Vineyard Notes
Sagemoor Vineyard (60%) Founded in 1968, Sagemoor Vineyards was a pioneering effort that helped establish the Washington State wine industry. Its early vineyards are among the oldest plantings of vinifera grapes in the state. Rick began using Sagemoor fruit in his home winemaking days, and we continue to use it today. A significant number of 1972 plantings are still producing our "Old Vines" Cabernet Sauvignon sourced from specific rows in Blocks 3 and 9. Quincy loamy fine sand, Sagehill very fine sandy loam, 2-10% slope. 572ft elevation. Weinbau Vineyard (24%) Weinbau has a view of the Rattlesnake Mountains to the south, and the Saddle Mountains to the north. The land slopes gently south, with elevation ranging from 710-950 feet. Weinbau is a warm site with excellent air drainage, and the soil is dominated by Kennewick silt loam with a 2-5% slope. The consistency of soil type shows up in vine growth and subsequently in the wines. Champoux Vineyard (8%) Founded in 1972 and located in Alderdale Washington within the Horse Heaven Hills AVA, Champoux’s original plantings of the famed "Block One" Cabernet Sauvignon are regarded as being among the oldest and finest in Washington State and are a key component of our “Old Vines”. In 1996 Woodward Canyon and fellow Washington State producers Powers/Badger Mountain Winery, Quilceda Creek Winery, and Andrew Will Winery became joint owners. Malaga gravelly fine sandy loam over lacustrine deposits, glacial outwash. Slope 3%, 650ft elevation. Woodward Canyon Estate Vineyard (8%) Established in 1976, Woodward Canyon is the westernmost vineyard in Walla Walla Valley AVA, roughly 15 miles west of Walla Walla Washing-ton. There are 41 vineyard acres planted and several more acres of green belts that support native species such as western juniper, ponderosa pine, western sagebrush, arrowleaf balsamroot, and perennial wildflowers. Ritzville silt loam over fractured basalt, slope 15-18%, 750-850ft elevation. Managed by Woodward Can-yon. All grapes are Salmon Safe certified.
