Wine Profile
Tasting Notes
This dark, brick red wine begins with generous herbs, tobacco, and earth. It continues on with a slight roasted quality like coffee or cocoa powder, dried violets, and subtle black fruits. It is elegant and opens up beautifully with more time in your glass. Dry tannins create a nice grip and subtle fruit and savory aromas show varietal typicity. This wine is balanced enough to enjoy now but will reward those who are patient. With proper cellaring, this wine should age well for ten years or more. Pair with chicken pot pie or roasted meats.
94 POINTS- Dr. Owen Bargreen: I completely adore the new 2018 ‘Estate’ Cabernet Franc. This shows amazing varietal character with red bell pepper, dried sage, and red currants that march on with spicy undertones on this beautiful bouquet. The palate is fresh and viscous with a great sense of mouthfeel. This finishes exceedingly long. Gorgeous in its youth, this has another fifteen or twenty years to go. Drink 2021-2036. 91 POINTS- Wine Enthusiast: This is a rare example of varietal Cabernet Franc from this site, coming from plants planted in 1997 and 2001. Aromas of tar, resin, green pepper, cherry, dark chocolate, and barrel spices lead to soft, elegant coffee and cherry flavors. It's a pretty expression of the variety. 19+/20 POINTS, Highly Recommended- Rand Sealey's Review of Washington Wines: Deep brick red, this 100% varietal wine emits intoxicating aromas of wild fruits - blackberries, cherries, plums, black currants - with scents of crushed black roses, mulberry, tobacco, cedar, olive tapenade, rosemary, sage and smoldering incense. The flavors are deliciously rich and mouth filling, with layers of dark fruits that are infused with licorice, cocoa, roasted coffee beans and dusty earth. On the back, the flavors intensify further with roasted berries and nuts, mocha, kirsch and crème de cassis liqueurs and graphite. The oak is moderate (25% new French) leaving the vigorous varietal character to speak for the wine along with a long, savory sweet-dry tannin finish.
