2014 Charbonneau Red- Etched 1.5L Image

2014 Charbonneau Red- Etched 1.5L

This 2014 Charbonneau Red is produced entirely from grapes grown in Walla Walla County.  Nearly all of the cabernet sauvignon and merlot were grown by Charbonneau Vineyard.  Charbonneau Vineyard is located in northwestern Walla Walla County, on a sandy bench of soil underlain by basalt overlooking the Snake River. The cabernet franc and petit verdot were grown at Woodward Canyon Estate Vineyard in the western Walla Walla Valley on east facing silt loam and basalt based soils.  Yield from either vineyard is typically no more than two tons per acre. The nose is absolutely Charbonneau! The flavor profile expresses the character of the vineyards beautifully with subtle herb and tobacco nuances coupled with gorgeous complex fruit. This wine offers classic Left Bank character and elegance that truly entices. I am impressed that Charbonneau can have such a lovely expression of place. This wine should age ten years or more with proper cellaring.

Tasting Notes
Typical Charbonneau aromas of aromatic pipe tobacco, cigar box and leather integrate with sweet, black cherry fruit. Subtle oak from new French barrels integrates with notes of ripe black fruit, baking spice and mocha…if not espresso. Ripe cherry-black fruit is in perfect proportion with new French oak, acidity, and fine grained tannin. The wine has a silky, viscous texture; the finish is generous and long.
19+/20 Rand Sealey Composed of 41% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Merlot, 17% Cabernet Franc and 12% Petit Verdot, this vintage shows a deep ruby color and an intoxicating nose of raspberry, cherry and cassis, with scents of crushed roses, bayberry, pipe tobacco, cedar and incense. On the palate, the flavors are supple and viscous, yet robust and deep cored, underlain with licorice, Swiss chocolate, French roast and sandy earth. The back reveals sensations of pressed berries, roasted nuts, graphite and toasty oak, followed by a lingering firm, yet satiny tannin finish.
